According to Aviation secretary, the Union government granted has given its go-ahead for the development of green field airport in Nellore under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. The RFPs for bids to construction could be issued in few weeks. A green field airport is a new airport which is constructed on an undeveloped site.

The union government has also granted site clearance for the construction of airport at Bhogapuram near Visakhapatnam. Government has also sanctioned no-frills airport at Kurnool to be built as per the PPP model.
