Cadbury India, a unit of Mondelez International, is investing close to Rs2000 crore in Sri City SEZ to manufacture chocolates and other products. The Sri City facility will be its biggest manufacturing facility in the Asia-Pacific region. Cadbury India has signed an agreement with Sri City for taking 134 acres of land on lease.
The initial phase expected to start in mid-2015 would involve an investment of over Rs 1,000 crore. Next three phases would add another Rs1000 crore by 2020. Cadbury India has its manufacturing facilities in Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
The multi-category food campus will be the largest chocolate manufacturing plant in India and the largest Mondelez International manufacturing facility in Asia Pacific. The facility is expected to create close to 1,600 direct jobs by 2020.Once completed, this project will set examples in production efficiency, energy saving, emission reduction and community involvement. Other FMCG companies in Sri City SEZ include PepsiCo, Kellogg’s and Colgate Palmolive. Sri City SEZ is now home to over 90 industrial units from 25 countries.
