GK Reddy, world renowned journalist from Nellore

Gunupati Keshava Reddy well known as G. K. Reddy (1923 – 1987) was an Indian journalist of international repute. He was born in Kothuru village of Indukuripeta mandal in SPSR Nellore district. He worked as the Editor of Kashmir Times for sometime. After the Independence, he had worked as Director of Civil Supplies in Azad Kashmir Government.

 

He had worked in Times of India between 1951 and 1962 and traveled to Beijing and London as their Overseas Reporter. Later he joined as Chief of Bureau with The Hindu till his death.

He died of Cancer in 1987 in New York. T. Subbarami Reddy, another Nellorean, established G. K. Reddy Memorial Award, an annual award for outstanding journalism.

GK Reddy was a recipient of Fellowship from Nieman Foundation for Journalism in 1957. He was awarded Honorary Doctorates by Andhra and Sri Venkateswara universities. He also received the Sri Raja-Lakshmi Foundation Award for Journalism in 1986.
