About 210 hectares of land is being converted into an urban forest near Kottur with about Rs2.5 crore funding from Govt of India. About 150 hectares is the reserve forest and the rest is being taken from APFDC (Andhra Pradesh Forest Development Corporation). Foundation stone for the project was laid on 17th July 2015 during Vanamahotsavam.

The identified terrain is undulating with a few hillocks. The APFDC has taken up Eucalyptus plantations in suitable areas leaving a patch of natural forest. The hillocks are ideal locations for constructing view spots, watch towers and resting pagodas. The forest is covered with fairly good vegetation with dry deciduous shrub type forest. There is an old mining pit which serves as a good source of water all through the year. Three water bodies are being proposed to increase the water availability throughout the year.
