BMR Group of Nellore has setup the India’s first brood stock (mother prawn) multiplication center in Nellore. This move could transform the aquaculture industry in India, the unit will produce pathogen free brood stock helping us achieve self-sustainability. Till date most aqua firms rely on imports for imports for disease-free brood stock.

BMR Group Chairman Beeda Mastan Rao, who first brought the L Vannamei prawn species to India, has setup the plant at Chennayapalem in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, in collaboration with Blue Genetics of France and Mexico.

Andhra Pradesh state accounts for 70% of India’s shrimp exports with an annual turnover of Rs24,000 crore. The brood stock center would further strengthen the state’s dominance in the sector.
