3,407.77 acres of land under Damavaram, Dagadarthi, Velupodu and Kourugunta villages has been demarcated for the upcoming Nellore Airport and the same is said to be approved by Airports Authority of India. It is expected that the project may be officially launched by Dec 2013.
The stretch of land 6 KM long and 2 KM wide includes about 420 acres patta lands, 526 acres DKT lands, 1120 acres forest lands, 545 acres government lands, 483 acres CJSF lands, 30 acres water tank and 281 acres hilly terrain. Sunnapu Batti village, an irrigation canal, a high tension power line and a straw board factory may have to be relocated to accommodate the airport.
