Magsaysay award winner Shantha Sinha of Nellore to be honoured with Bejawada Hopal Reddy Award

Ramon Magsaysay award winner Padma Shri Shantha Sinha of Nellore will be honoured with Bejawada Gopal Reddy Award – 2013 on 4th August 2013. The award presentation ceremony will be held in Nellore Town Hall at 10 A.M. The annual award is being presented on 106th birthday of Sri Bejawada Gopal Reddy.

A biography of Sri Bejawada Gopal Reddy (popularly known as BEGORE, Nostalgia, written by former speaker of AP Assembly Mr Agarala Eswar Reddy will be released on the occasion. MS Anuradha, daughter of Begore would also be present at the ceremony.

Prof. Shantha Sinha is an anti-child labour activist of international reputation. She is the Professor in the Department of Political Science in Hyderabad Central University.

She won the internationally renowned 2003 Ramon Magsaysay award for community leadership. She was also honoured with Padma Shri in 1999. She is the founder of Mamidipudi Venkatarangaiya Foundation, popularly known as MV Foundation, named in memory of her grandfather Mamidipudi Venkatarangaiah, another notable Nellorean.

In 2012, the Bejawada Gopal Reddy Award was given to Mr K Rosaiah, the current Governor of Tamilnadu and Ex-CM of Andhra Pradesh.
