Indian President Smt Pratibha Patil inaugurated the newly built mission control room at SHAR, Sriharikota, Nellore. The mission control room has facilities like state of the art mission control hall, multi-channel CCTV, realtime network, VIP gallery, video conferencing, mission executive room, commentator room, etc and is linked to other ISRO ground stations in India. Future rocket launching missions like Chandrayaan-2 and GSLV Mark-3 will be controlled and monitored from this mission control room. Satish Dhawan Space Center, popularly known as SHAR in Sriharikota, Nellore became the overall champion in ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) employees sports meet here. About 500 ISRO employees from its 11 centers across India participated in the Inter Sports Meet – 2011 held in two phases from Dec 20 to 30 here.
