Union minister of state for defence, M.M. Pallam Raju, commissioned an Indian Coast Guard Station (ICGS) at Krishnapatnam Port, near Nellore on 18th June. The station is the third such facility in Andhra Pradesh after Visakhapatnam and Kakinada. The station will act as a hub for coastal security operations for southern Andhra Pradesh. It will coordinate with the state administration, police, port authorities, fisheries and other agencies, including local fishermen, to achieve an effective surveillance and security network.
