Rottela Panduga (Rotiyaan ki eid or Roti Festival) will be observed from 1st to 5th October 2017 in Nellore as a state festival.
Rottela Panduga is an annual three-day urs(festival) held at Bara Shaheed Dargah of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, India. The annual state sponsored event is observed in the month of Muharram as urs of 12 martyrs whose mortal remains are buried in the compound. Women who visit the shrine, exchange their rotis (flat indian breads) at Nellore Tank (Swarnala Cheruvu) in fulfillment of their wishes.
SHAR Sriharikota is getting ready to launch its first private sector-built navigation satellite today at 6.59 pm. The satellite will replace one of NAVIC’s seven satellites which is malfunctioning. NAVIC is a system of seven navigational satellites powering India’s own navigation system. The 1425 kg IRNSS – 1H satellite will lift off on the back of PSLV C-39, on its 41st flight. The Indian space agency has conducted 150 missions over the last three decades, staring with Aryabhatta in 1975.
The three day Rottela Panduga of Nellore is slated to begin on 13th October this year. All the pilgrims would be provided free and peaceful visit to the Bara Shaheed Dargah and Swarnala Cheruvu where the festival will takes place. The Andhra Pradesh state had declared ‘Rottela Panduga’ as a state festival last year.
The tradition is being observed in the city for the past several decades at the Bara Shahid Dargah (a mausoleum of 12 tombs of martyred warriors), where lakhs of devotees would take part in the Rottela panduga, which marks the exchange of rotis among devotees cutting across religious beliefs. While some devotees leave home-made rotis as a thanksgiving for fulfillment of their past wishes, others receive such rotis seeking their wishes to be fulfilled. The rotis are exchanged seeking fulfillment of a variety of wishes, including children, marriage, job, studies, career, etc., Those who cannot bring home-made rotis can purchase them for Rs 5 to 10 near the dargah.
With pilgrims expected to visit the city from across the country and even from other countries, the city police are taking additional precautions including the use of drones to monitor security and crowd management. A command and control centre (CCC) is being set up to handle the entire event.
