The Andhra Pradesh state government has decided to remove leather tanning activity at the proposed Krishnapatnam International Leather Complex (KPILC) to put an end to pollution concerns of neighbouring villagers. The project is coming up at Kothapatnam village in Kota mandal of Nellore district, in 532 acres at an investment of Rs 281 crore. The leather complex is expected to provide employment to 15,000 people. Government of India gave environment clearance in 2014 itself. Department of industrial policy and promotion cleared the project in 2016. The Andhra Pradesh cabinet gave its formal nod to Nellore airport at Dagadarthi, putting an end to all th confusion over the location of the airport. The ministry of civil aviation has already given the site clearance for developing the green field no-frills airport. The 368-crore airport to be deeloped by Messer Turbo Consortium will come up in 1,352 acres at Dagadarthi. The cabinet approved allotment of 110 acres in Nellore to Midhani for setting up an aluminum alloy plant. Tata Chemicals Ltd is setting up a prebiotics plant to manufacture fructo-oligosaccharides and galacto-oligosaccharides powders classified as nutritional biotechnology products. The Rs 400 crore plant is coming up on a 40-acre site in the APIIC Industrial Park of Mambattu Village, Tada Mandal, Nellore district. The plant is expected to be completed in two phases with first phase production likely to start in December 2018. When completed, it would provide direct employment to 150 people and indirect employment to 80 members. The company hopes to realize a turnover of ₹183 crore from the plant by 2021.
