Famous breeding ground for pelicans

Nelapattu Bird Sanctuary is one of the best breeding grounds for Spot-billed Pelican in the country. Covering an area of 4.5 square kilometres, this lake serves as a nesting colony for thousands of migratory birds in winter. These birds build their nests on the Barringtonia sp. trees surrounding the lake. The bird species that nest here include Painted Stork, Grey Heron, Eurasian Spoonbill, Darter, Little Cormorant, Indian Shag, Spot-billed Pelican, Black-headed Ibis, Glossy Ibis, Little Egret, Intermediate Egret, Great Egret, Black-crowned Night Heron, Pond Heron and Asian Openbill Stork. Second largest salt water lake

Do you know that Pulicat lake is known as the second largest salt water lake in India? It covers an area of around 450 square kilometres. The habitat consists of shallow brackish water lagoons, tidal mudflats, sand banks, thin scrub intercepted by paddy fields and reed beds. Over 130 resident and migratory bird species have been spotted here. రంగనాయకునికి ఎంగిలి వస్త్రమా?

చాల ఎళ్ళ క్రితం ఒక మంచి మనసున్న దాత నెల్లూరు  తల్పగిరి రంగనాయకుల స్వామికి ఒక పట్టు వస్త్రం  నేయించి కానుకగా ఇవ్వాలనుకున్నడు. ఆ రోజులలో  పట్టు నేసే వారికి ఒక అలవాటు ఉండేది (ఈ రోజులలో  ఉందో లేదో నాకు తెలియదు). నేత మద్యలొ ఎక్కడైన  పట్టు పోగులు తెగిపోతే వాటిని నోటి ఎంగిలి తడితో పురి  వేసేవారు, మనము పుస్తకం పేజి/పుట తిప్పే ముందు  వేలు నాలుకపై పెట్టినట్టు. అది చూసిన ఆ దాత ‘  ‘రంగనాయకునికి ఎంగిలి వస్త్రమా?’ అని ఎలాగైన ఆ  అలవాటు మానిపించి నేయించాలనుకొన్నడు, కాని అది  కుదరలేదు. అప్పుడు ఆయన ఆలోచించి ఒక బంగారు  గిన్నె చేయించి దానిలొ నీళ్ళు పోసి, ఎవరైతే ఎంగిలి చేయకుండా ఈ గిన్నెలొ నీళ్ళతొ వేలు తడుపుకొని పురి పెట్టి నేస్తారో వారికి ఈ బంగారు గిన్నె (ఈ ఫొటొలొ ఉన్న బంగరు గిన్నెకి, ఆ దాత … Continue reading రంగనాయకునికి ఎంగిలి వస్త్రమా?
