Rottela Panduga 2016 in Nellore

The three day Rottela Panduga of Nellore is slated to begin on 13th October this year. All the pilgrims would be provided free and peaceful visit to the Bara Shaheed Dargah and Swarnala Cheruvu where the festival will takes place. The Andhra Pradesh state had declared ‘Rottela Panduga’ as a state festival last year.

The tradition is being observed in the city for the past several decades at the Bara Shahid Dargah (a mausoleum of 12 tombs of martyred warriors), where lakhs of devotees would take part in the Rottela panduga, which marks the exchange of rotis among devotees cutting across religious beliefs. While some devotees leave home-made rotis as a thanksgiving for fulfillment of their past wishes, others receive such rotis seeking their wishes to be fulfilled. The rotis are exchanged seeking fulfillment of a variety of wishes, including children, marriage, job, studies, career, etc., Those who cannot bring home-made rotis can purchase them for Rs 5 to 10 near the dargah.

With pilgrims expected to visit the city from across the country and even from other countries, the city police are taking additional precautions including the use of drones to monitor security and crowd management. A command and control centre (CCC) is being set up to handle the entire event.
