Recently, the Prime Minister’s Office announced that the government has decided to set up 51 new low-cost airports with an aim to give boost to civil aviation sector and increase air connectivity to Tier-II and Tier-III cities. Nellore figures in the list apart from other cities like Vijayawada, Kurnool, Kadapa, Nizamabad, Tirupati, Anantapur and Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh.

With the panchayat elections already announced and general elections less than a year away, there has been lot of excitement in the air about Nellore Airport. There had been news in the past that the Airport is coming up near Dagadarthi village. However, land acquisition is said to be progressing very slowly.
