The famous Flamingo Festival will be celebrated officially as a three-day annual event from January 7 to 9, 2013 at Sullurupet in Nellore district. The Andhra Pradesh State Government passed orders to include this festival in the list of State Tourism calendar of festivals.
Thousands of people visit the Pulicat Lake and Nelapattu Bird Sanctuaries near Sullurupet every year. Special arrangements are also made for conducting cultural programmes, exhibition of various departments and rural sports at the sprawling grounds of Government Junior College in Sullurupet during the three days. The Flamingo Festival was celebrated by a committee in the past, without direct participation from the administration.
