PL Reddy, VP of International Lawn Tennis Club of India from Nellore

P.L. REDDY was born in 1927. He hails from Yellayapalem village of Nellore district. He was initiated into sports while studying in VR High School of Nellore in the early 1940s. He learnt a number of games there including volleyball, soccer, tennis and even baseball.

He did his B.A. in Mathematics from Madras Christian College and took off to U.K. in 1949 for post-graduate studies. On his return to Madras, he joined Parry & Co. (now known as EID Parry). He was made a member of the Gymkhana Club in 1951, at a time when it was exclusive to the British.

He served as the secretary of the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association, and secretary-general of the All India Tennis Association. He was the vice-president of the International Lawn Tennis Club of India. He has also served as manager of the Indian Davis Cup team several times, and was involved closely with the Britannia Academy of Tennis in Chennai.
